Get Ready, Get Set....

Just a couple more days before I hit the road (or air) on my way to the 80 Million Strong for Young American Jobs Summit in Washington, DC. I've been reading a lot of stats and news articles about youth employment - or lack thereof - and I have to admit that I'm stunned by what I've learned. For instance - unemployment for 17-25 year olds is now at 25%. That means one QUARTER of the Millennial Generation can't find a job! While I find just the scope of the problem completely overwhelming, I also believe there have to be solid ideas for how the nation can take action to create new jobs for everyone, but especially young people. We've got a big problem to tackle next week, but if anyone can do it, it's this generation.

Banks won't talk to you, and credit card companies don't want you using them if you are drawing an unemployment check, but you can get payday loans. Payday loans lenders are technically forbidden from discriminating for any reason, as per Federal law (as are all lenders) but honestly, you shouldn't get a payday loan if on unemployment. That's when you should tighten the belt until you find a job – but if you absolutely MUST, please be responsible. Payday loans lenders are just as hard up for business as banks are these days, and even if it is only short term loans a person is looking for, if you're on unemployment you should pare back expenses to the absolute barest minimum.

The tendency for government is to curtail and eliminate unemployment through increases in benefits and government jobs, microsoft exam and to encourage the job-seeker to both consider new careers and relocation to another city.
