LBGT Runaway and Homeless Youth

The past couple of weeks have seen a flurry of articles highlighting the high numbers of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning youth living on the streets. It seems the media - and hopefully American society at large - is becoming aware that these youth are being forced from their homes because of their sexual orientation.  It is a situation that is alarming and needs to be addressed by cities, states and the federal government.

For those of you who have run away or are homeless because of discrimination I salute you. You are survivors with a lot to teach the rest of us how to make our culture not only accepting of gay youth, but to embrace and nuture such diversity.

My question to you is this: how do we do better? What support do families need to understand and nurture gay youth? How can communities support families and youth struggling with sexual orientation issues? What are some of the services that LGBTQ youth need if they do become homeless? There are a million more questions on the tip of my tongue, but you get the idea.

After learning a lot from the news and current economic updates, I'm definitely sure that the economy has a far way to go before we will see any actual recovery. It is my opinion that people who have an outstanding income are the people thinking the economy will get better because things appear to be good for them. All this time, the unemployment rate keeps on jumping back and forth. This only shows that the economic system is not going to recover as quickly as some of us hope. It is in the self interest of the people that benefit from wasting your money to preach materialism.
